GET OUT
The editing was unreal. The sunken place was such a, dare I say, mind boggling thing to see. I felt that he was able to perfectly represent a state of mind that it so hard to describe to others who haven’t been there.
. Another thing that just stuck with me is both the beginning and ending scene, The beginning scene is Rose looking at some desserts which is being paralleled with Chris looking at himself getting ready in the mirror. My interpretation was that Rose was shopping around for a dessert, its unsure which but I thought this was an interesting detail to put in as we see her looking at some chocolate pastries before the shot switches. Chocolate is important because Black people are often referred to as chocolate in phrases like “chocolate king/queen”.
In the final scene we watch as Chris’ trauma of his mom’s hit and run literally plays out right in front of him. He regretted not doing anything and waiting too long to call for help, his mom survived the first bullet and slowly bled out because no one was looking for her. In this same way Rose, the only other woman he has strong ties with, dies in the end. But instead, he was there at the scene and willingly left her to slowly pass as he departed, and the police sirens get further and further away. As he departs the camera performs a pull focus from the TSA car to Rose’s body, followed by the end credits
Super insightful!
